👩🍳 How to Make Everything Bagel Salmon Salad
This Everything Bagel Salmon Salad comes together in a few easy steps, and most of the work can be done ahead of time.
Start by making the dressing. Blend the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, milk, olive oil, minced shallot, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and salt until smooth and creamy. Once it is blended, stir in the fresh dill so the dressing stays bright and herby.
Next, turn your everything bagels into croutons. Toss the bagel cubes with olive oil and bake them until they are golden and crisp. Your kitchen will smell like a toasted bagel shop, which is never a bad thing.
Prepare the salmon. Spread a little of that creamy dill dressing over the top of the fillets and sprinkle generously with Everything But the Bagel seasoning. Roast the salmon until it is perfectly cooked and just barely opaque in the center. Let it cool slightly and then gently flake it into large pieces.
To assemble the salad, layer the shredded romaine, red leaf lettuce, scallions, tomatoes, cucumber, and soft-boiled eggs in a large shallow bowl. Top everything with the crunchy bagel croutons and the flaked salmon. Drizzle the dill cream cheese dressing over the top and finish with fresh dill fronds and pickled red onions if you like a little extra zing. Toss just before serving so everything stays fresh and crisp.
🪄 Tips and Tricks
- Roast the salmon just until it flakes easily. Slightly undercooked salmon will stay tender once it cools.
- Cut the bagels into large cubes so the croutons stay chewy inside and crisp on the outside.
- Use a large shallow serving bowl. It helps showcase the ingredients and makes the salad look extra beautiful for entertaining.
- Cook the eggs ahead of time and chill them so they slice cleanly.
- Dress the salad right before serving to keep the lettuce crisp and fresh.
⚖️ Substitution & Variations
- Swap the salmon for smoked salmon if you want a more traditional bagel and lox vibe.
- If salmon is not your thing, swap it for shredded rotisserie chicken.
- For a vegetarian version, omit the salmon entirely
- For a high-protein dressing, swap sour cream for low-fat Greek yogurt.
- Add sliced avocado for extra creaminess.
- Swap the romaine for butter lettuce if you prefer a softer texture.
- Skip the pickled onions if you prefer a milder flavor or replace them with thinly sliced red onion
⚖️ How to Store Leftovers
If you have leftover Everything Bagel Salmon Salad, store the components separately whenever possible. The salmon, vegetables, and dressing will keep well in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to two days. The croutons are best stored at room temperature in a sealed container so they stay crisp.
